Nara had woven many gardens, planted many seeds, and sung many songs. But she noticed that the Whispers' flower-the one she had planted in the Garden-was beginning to droop. Its petals were losing color, its hum growing faint.

"What's wrong?" she asked Elara.

Elara knelt and touched the flower's soil. "It is not receiving the song it needs. The Whispers' world is fading again."

Nara felt a cold knot in her chest. "Can we help it?"

"The root of the song must be watered from its home world," Elara said. "You must return and sing there."

Nara traveled back through the Starlight Path. The world was grayer than before, the whispers almost silent. She knelt at the spot where she had first planted the seed and sang the Song of Stones.

The soil trembled. A new sprout emerged, stronger than before, its leaves holding the full melody of the world.

"Keep singing," the whispers urged.

Nara sang for hours, weaving her voice into the soil. When she stopped, the world was humming again, its colors returning.

She returned to the Garden and touched the flower. Its petals brightened, its hum growing steady.

"The root is strong now," Elara said.

Nara looked at the flower, at the world it represented. She understood now that every song needed a root-a source to draw from, a home to return to.

She would always return to the worlds she had woven, to water their roots and keep their songs alive.

The universe was full of songs, and she was their keeper. The End.

The briefing room was cold, the lights dim. Lieutenant Kaelen Voss sat at the table, his team around him, their faces tired but alert. Commander Thorne stood at the front, a holographic display showing a new target.

"You did well on Kepler," she began. "But the war isn't over. Intelligence has located the enemy's command center. This is the heart of their operation."

The display shifted, showing a planet Kaelen didn't recognize. "This is Xylos. The enemy has fortified the planet with everything they have. If we can destroy this facility, the war could end."

Kaelen studied the images-the base, the defenses, the unknown. "What's the infiltration plan?"

"The same as before. Stealth insertion. Reconnaissance. Extraction." Thorne paused. "But this time, there's no extraction. You go in, you destroy the facility, and you find your own way out."

Mira leaned forward, her eyes on the display. "You're sending us in without backup?"

"You're the best we have. If anyone can do this, it's you."

Kaelen nodded. "When do we leave?"

"Twenty-four hours. Get some rest. You'll need it."

The team filed out, their boots echoing on the metal floor. Kaelen walked with Mira, their shoulders almost touching.

"You think we can do it?" she asked.

Kaelen looked at the corridor ahead, the doors closing, the mission waiting. "We have to."

They walked in silence, the weight of the mission pressing down. Twenty-four hours to prepare. Twenty-four hours to rest. Then the darkness again, and the enemy, and the unknown.

Kaelen stopped at his quarters, turned to Mira. "Get some sleep."

She nodded, walked away, her footsteps fading. Kaelen watched her go, then entered his room, lay on his bunk, stared at the ceiling.

Somewhere in the darkness, the enemy was waiting. Somewhere in the future, the mission waited.

He closed his eyes, and let sleep take him. Tomorrow, they would leave. Tomorrow, the war would continue.
